Dear friends,
In light of the devastating 8.9 magnitude earthquake, subsequent tsunami, and nuclear concerns, the United States Breastfeeding Committee offers its condolences to the people of Japan in the wake of this incredible loss as well as hope and support for its recovery.
When disasters happen abroad, the best and most effective way for Americans to help is to donate. To support the emergency response, please visit the USAID website to see a list of active organizations in Japan that are accepting donations for earthquake and tsunami relief.
When catastrophe hits, it is important to remember that breastfeeding saves lives in an emergency. Human milk is always clean, requires no fuel, water, or electricity, and is available, even in the direst circumstances.
For information on breastfeeding and emergencies and quick links to information on relief efforts in Japan, please visit the USBC website.
Thank you for all you do.
