Our Mission Statement.
Spirit of Life Traditional Midwifery 's mission is to provide...women with maternity care that reflect their choices for pregnancy and birth.
We believe in non-interventional, spontaneous and gentle birthing. We believe that all women should have midwifery care available to them and the birthing family should have the right to choose their care provider and their place of birth whether it be a midwife or an obstetrician, in hospital or out of hospital.
We view birth as a normal process and when the birthing mother, if given the proper support during labor, it can be done in a spontaneous, gentle, and compassionate manner, with the midwife in attendance to guard and protect her space making sure that the process works for her.
We specialize in custom care, nurturing and prevention – not medical intervention – unless warranted.
Our Philosophy'
Midwifery is an attitude about women, about how pregnancy and birth occur, and a view that pregnancy and birth are normal events until proven otherwise. It is an attitude of giving and of sharing.
As a midwife I share with you the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of birth....identifying interferences and variances to this process...supporting women and families during the childbearing years as guide and guardian to this natural process of pregnancy and giving birth. I use the skills that I have learned, as well as the traditional tools of nourishment, herbs, storytelling, simple ritual and unconditional love.
I support the right of parents to choose where, and with whom they wish to give birth. I actively promote parent participation in health-care decisions by offering information and education to women and families throughout their prenatal care, labor, birth and early parenting. I support the wisdom that women intuitively know how to give birth, and babies know how to be born. Women need to be supported and reassured of their knowing.
Giving birth is a powerful, magical time in a woman’s life – a creative, life-affirming and life-giving experience that finds expression in a diversity of ways – ways that are right for that woman and baby. It is a time of great transformation when you are growing and maturing not only in your body, but also your heart and mind. I honor childbirth as a rite of passage, a celebration of life!!! I look forward to sharing this time with you and your family!
